The notion of masculinity is the current conceptual foundation of my studio practice.   I actively investigate male identity as embodied by prominent figures and tropes in popular culture in order to address personal questions surrounding my developing transgendered identity.  Through this investigation, I construct bodies of work that address the emotional landscape of my personal transition from female to male.  In conjunction with my own narrative, I examine categorical expectations of masculinity in regard to how all identity is perceived, formed, and comprehended. These works challenge the superficial simplification of masculinity by reworking themes that are a part of American patriarchal history, Modernist art, and contemporary culture.
